ZANDVOORT
On the site of the current Zandvoort aan Zee we find a small settlement of fishermen who led a marginal existence. They had chosen the place well because this location was in a somewhat lower area, sheltered from the weather and with easy access to the beach. Such a lower spot in the dunes was also called a Sandedade and the name Zandvoort was derived from this. Zandvoort is still the official name of the village, but Zandvoort aan Zee is currently the most used.
